Amy is the Trust Accountant at Sutcliffe Matson Law, an Auckland law firm specialising in property and conveyancing, family law, commercial law, and wills and estates. She is responsible for ensuring that clients' funds are managed accurately, securely, and in full compliance with the strict rules that govern trust accounting in New Zealand. If something doesn't quite add up, Amy is the person you want on the case, she genuinely enjoys working through a problem until it does, and admits to a deep love of a well-built spreadsheet.
Amy brings a strong financial foundation to the role, having studied at the University of Auckland and spent several years working as an accountant before running her own business. When the opportunity to join Sutcliffe Matson Law arose four years ago, it felt like the perfect fit, combining her eye for detail with her love of working with people.
In a move that surprises many people, Amy decided in her 40s to take on yet another challenge: a law degree. Now in her final year, she's on track to complete her LLB in 2027 and looking forward to bringing her accounting expertise into legal practice, a combination that will make her a genuinely rare find in any firm.
Her colleagues describe her as helpful, friendly and approachable, and she'd be the first to say the people at Sutcliffe Matson Law are a big part of why she loves coming to work.
Outside the office, Amy is usually found on the sidelines of a rugby field - or several, cheering on her four sons, which she says is easily the highlight of her week. When they're not watching rugby, the family loves catching up with friends and extended family, travelling whenever they can, and escaping to their place up north.
