Delyse

Delyse is a Legal Administrator at Sutcliffe Matson Law, an Auckland law firm specialising in wills and estates. Her work sits at the heart of the firm's trust and estate administration, managing ongoing trust administration for a number of clients, handling estate matters, and making sure the day-to-day runs smoothly (she'll also tell you she makes a mean coffee).

What sets Delyse apart is the way she shows up for clients who need more than just legal support. Many of the people she works with are elderly or vulnerable, and Delyse goes well beyond the brief, coordinating appointments, arranging property maintenance, organising meals on wheels, and supporting clients in rest homes. She has a natural ability to understand what people need, even when they struggle to ask for it. One of her proudest moments involved honouring a client's final wishes in full, arranging every detail of his farewell when there was no one else to do it. It's the kind of work that doesn't appear in any job description, but speaks volumes about who she is.

Delyse's path to law has been anything but conventional. She began her career completing a tourism and travel apprenticeship, making history as the first person in New Zealand to complete it within the holiday park sector, before moving into marketing roles across the energy and insurance industries. After raising three children, she found her way to Sutcliffe Matson Law, where her knack for people and her steady nature have made her an integral part of the team.

Outside of work, Delyse is kept very busy. Her weekends involve cooking and baking, and she loves nothing more than hosting family and friends. She tends to her vegetable and flower gardens, and looks after a rather impressive collection of animals, chickens, ducks, a cow, calves, goats, lambs, dogs, and a kitten. When she needs to recharge, you'll find her at the beach. Nothing soothes the soul, she says, quite like sitting by the water.
